How to Get the Folks Who Love You Telling Your Story

Tags: , , , View Comments

It’s always confused me.
Why is it that we ignore the people who love us while we go chasing after the people who ignore us?
That’s not great strategy.

Look right next to you.
People with your values, who value what you do, are investing in you and your business. They have a unique point of view. They can see what you do from outside the system and they’re already on your team.

You can’t be inside a system and outside at the same.

Don’t overlook that rich resource.
Build on it.
Let those people be smart for you.
Ask them what see.
Invite their ideas.
Give them a reason to talk about you!

I’ll be talking about this in the Learning Lounge at the PCMA National Convention this week.

Be irresistible.

Great idea. Bloggers and small businesses can start by sharing their story – either on their about page or on a page linked from it. That makes it easy for people who already know you to share who you are, what you do, and what is most important to you. When you provide that information freely, others can write about you and make stronger recommendations for you. It gives them specific points to share when writing a review or a testimonial. The more I know about your story, the better!

I was just thinking about that yesterday, LIz. I was looking at how many people have agreed to support my new book–colleagues and partners–who don’t even know me that well. They believe in what I’m doing, though. Yet, there are people much closer to me who know me even better who have not yet jumped on board. I’ll be going to a conference in Atlanta just after my book release, and I’ve asked some of them–actually my best friends–to hold book parties for me in their homes…to get on board. I’ll be telling them my story, asking them to tell my story. I’m also offering them incentives. And I’ll be posting videos to do the same and then directing more people who know me to those pages. I’m going to start doing that in a variety of places. The people who love us are our best advocates. I see that often. And we forget to embrace them and make them part of our team.
