Solutions Don’t Involve Teaching Lessons

PERFECT VIRTUAL MANAGER

I was just working on solving a problem for a friend. It involved creatively brainstorming how to get to the outcome we wanted. We came up with some fun alternatives. Every one of them made my eyes twinkle with delight. Every one of them left the other person with a place to stand.

That’s the thing about finding a workable solution. If it “teaches a lesson,” it’s probably not a good plan.

Time Management: One Click Away

Liz Strauss | Business Thinking, Perfect Virtual Manager, Uniquely Liz | Sunday, April 22nd, 2007

PERFECT VIRTUAL MANAGER

When I stand at someone’s computer, as that person is about to show me something he or she is working on, I have to look away. I’m fully aware that everyone needs to organize their systems to their way of working.

I’m also fully aware that too many folks don’t do that. It’s painful to watch how much time folks lose because they don’t. Watch yourself for a day.

Count the clicks it takes to get to the documents you access every day.

I have seen an editor open 14 levels of folders to get to a document that is her current daily project. Every morning she goes through 14 clicks to get to what she’s working on.

An easy solution is a daily work folder on your desktop. One click and you are where you need to be. When the document is complete, you can move it into your organizational structure.

Fourteen clicks a day over a month, or two, or thre, over three, or four documents, how much time would that be?

Andy Sernovitz Knows What Gets People Talking

Liz Strauss | Uniquely Liz | Sunday, April 8th, 2007

And He’s Going to be Talking about It at SOBCon 07

WOMMA Book

Andy Sernovitz knows what people talk about.
He wrote the book Word of Mouth Marketing: How Smart Companies Get People Talking.

In his book, Word of Mouth Marketing, Andy says that if we want people talking, we need to understand that people talk about three kinds of things.

  1. We talk about other people and their stuff.
  2. We talk because it makes us feel smart, important, and helpful.
  3. We want to feel part of a bigger group.

Talking to each other is what we do.Talking is how we share the experiences that we find interesting and defining.

What can you do to get people talking about what you do?

SOBCon 07: Persuade Me to Lower the Price for You

Liz Strauss | Uniquely Liz | Sunday, April 1st, 2007

Just for Fun

We wanted a way to let some folks who need help to make it to SOBCon 07. They wanted to be part of what made it an experience. So we got together and we came up with this. Anyone who wanted a second chance at the special $250 registration fee could go for it! All they have to do is make a blog post about it. The blog post doesn’t have to be . . . um er . . . exactly factual. It can be fantasctical or science fictional.

After all the best bloggers have imagination, a sense of wonder, and are persuasive.

Another Chance at the $250 Fee

So, here’s another chance at the $250 registration fee. If you think that you belong at the SOBCon 07 conference, . . . .

Persuade ME

Here’s how to do that
1. Write a unique blog post explaining why SOBCon 07 will be even more outstanding with you attending — be honest, be clever, be creative, be unique, be an outstanding blogger. Use words, use pictures, tell a story, write a report, make a list. — Persuade Me.

2. Link back to the SOBCon 07 blog, so I’ll know that you have a post for me to see.

3. I’ll come to your post and leave comment. In the comment, I’ll tell you what to do next. . . . if you persuaded me.

There is only one rule — be nice.

If there’s any part of this that you don’t understand, shhhh, you can email me at lizsun2@gmail.com.

Everyone knows I have high standards, but I’m not stingy.
$100 off! I bet you can persuade me.
