A Valentine To Do List
View CommentsA holiday, especially a minor one, is a great chance to stop, breathe, and look around. It’s an opportunity to take stock and to see how far we’ve come. It’s also a chance to remember to let folks know that we value them.
One way to do all of those is to make a holiday list. This is such a list you might use to celebrate Valentine’s Day this year.
A Valentine To Do List
- Give yourself a Valentine. Remember to smile at everyone you see. If you do, almost everyone will smile back at you.
- Give a new client a Valentine. Call up a client you enjoyed working with in the past year. Explain that you’re not soliciting work, but you merely want to say a quick and personal “Happy Valentine’s Day! It was fun working with you.”
Do it on the phone. Voice mail is fine. Email is what everyone else will do. If the client answers, keep the conversation focused on your point that you only called to say, “Happy Valentine’s Day! It was fun working with you.”
- Give regular clients a Valentine. Tell them one thing you enjoy about working with them. Think of something that makes each client uniquely special that you really enjoy and share that thought.
- Give a Valentine to someone you would like to get to know better. Make it an invite for coffee or an appointment for a telephone chat.
- Send a Valentine to someone who has done work for you. Mention one detail of something that person said or did that you remember as remarkable and unique.
You get the idea. Send a Valentine without talking business. Valentines are a chance to extend a thank you and to make our relationships more positive, deeper, and lasting with the people who are part of our business life. Who wouldn’t want that?
