MyBlogLog Gives Me

Gavin asked about MyBlogLog v. other Social Networks and the impact of the Yahoo! purchase.

MyBlogLog offers a chance to see the big picture in a context I can see at 30,000 feet. I can compare what I see and see where my friends from outside MyBlogLog are connected. I can get the picture without the extraneous hangers on and forced connections. I can participate at my comfort level. I can look without having to join in.

The other social networks push me to make friends. I’m stuck at the ground level — one blog at a time.

I already have friends.

Yahoo! hopefully will recognize the value of the people that it moves and let it be.

MyBlogLog is interesting … I don’t know if it is something that I will actively pursue — there are so many tools out there that provide similar services/analysis. I do like the way that they combine a couple of features, but I prefer more hardcore analytics programs.

But, I take your point about engaging at your own comfort level. That really is one great benefit. Though I must admit being a little embarrassed at seeing my photo popping up wherever I visit.

    Hi Gavin,
Those photos popping up do make it harder for the drive by commenter an easier for the serious discussion. That’s a big plus on some blogs. I don’t have the widget on mind, but it’s kind of fun to see who’s been around.

I don’t use or even think about MyBlogLog’s anayltics. When they started they were about that and I tried them for about a week. I found them thin even for a daily look. Thin with a cumbersome interface. Too colorful with not enough information. :)

I’m glad you’ve found the network helpful so far. The Yahoo! guys brought us on to the team to help us enhance what we do more than change it.

We will be adding some features to make the site easier to navigate as it continues to grow. Now that we’ve got 50,000 blogs in the system, we’re looking to offer categorization and other ways to let you explore more specific areas of information if you want.

    Do you have other suggestions?

    Hi Scott,
Thanks for visiting my “test” blog. You can see I am a fan of MyBlogLog. :)

I’ll be thinking about features over the next features the next few days. I do have one about the mesaging system. I’ll email you about it. :)
