What IS It about MyBlogLog?

View Comments

Yahoo bought MyBlogLog. It was announced yesterday. Why’d they do that?

How did this little networking, click tracking program go from a sleepy site into a most-useful and fast-growing application? What does it have that the others do not? Word Sell details the values of MyBlogLog well.

    1. Easy to set up your account and profile.

    2. Blogs are organized into communities around subject matter, making it easy to find blogs and communities of interest.

    3. The process of establishing “contacts” and communicating with other bloggers is fast, easy, and secure.

    4. Members can communicate with individual bloggers or entire blog communities; messages can be public or private.

    5. The quality of member blogs is excellent, at least for business blogs, an area I’ve explored in some detail. That being the case, MyBlogLog promotes not merely traffic, but true readership.

    6. The “Recent Readers” widget (as you see on this blog’s sidebar) nicely personalizes your blog and alerts you to bloggers you’d probably enjoy reading.

I find that pictures tell the story, just as quickly though.

I can see the people. I can see their blogs. I can see the relationships. I feel part of something where real people are involved.

Hi Liz, thanks so much for mentioning Word Sell! Have you seen other networking sites as good as MyBlogLog? How do you think the Yahoo! acquisition will affect MyBlogLog?

I get the whole “personal” deal with MyBlogLog … but sometimes the whole “become my friend” thing a la MySpace feels a little false. Or perhaps that is just me.

    Hi Brad!
I don’t find the others as easy to navigate or as easy to leave where they are. I don’t want a commitment. I want a place where I can visit and see who’s there. :)

    Gavin,
That’s what I like about MyBlogLog. You only have to buy in so far and the buy in can be totally visual. You can check out a blog and its owner without having to “chat.” I like that. Other places are either too friendly for me or too complicated for my time frame. :)

Liz – I agree. What I love the most is putting the widget on your blog and seeing the (often) smiling faces of those that have actually come to your site. If it’s someone I don’t know I go and see if they have a blog as well. It helps me understand more about people coming over that don’t necessarily comment.

I always check out commenters, but as we’ve all said, they are such a small subset of visitors – now I can see some of the visitors as well. I LOVE that!

    Hi Ann,
It is fun to know who’s stopped or even who’s reading a blog at the same time I am. It helps me have a perspective and a context of where a blog fits in the context of other blogs I read. I like that!

I like MyBlogLog. It’s enabled me to see a lot of others, like yours.

    Hi jean Luc!
Thanks! I like MyBlogLog for the very same reason. :)
