Searching for Blogs
View CommentsYesterday a gentleman, named Gary, asked about the best way to find a blog on a specific subject. He suspected that an ordinary Google search might not reveal the fullest results. His intuition was taking him in the right direction. Stronger blog search tools do exist. Here are three that represent three different types of searching.
Google Blog Search — Much like it’s older brother, Google Blog search works in the same way. However, it doesn’t have quite as many features. I’m still waiting for the search within a search feature. However, for most basic searches, it’s the one to go to.
Technorati — Technorati allows a searcher to search by blog post, by tags, or through the blog directory. It also allows searchers to filter their searches according to the number of incoming links a blog has — “authority” — or how recent the information is.
Sphere — Sphere is the newest and offers results in order by relevance and order by recency and adds to that buttons that allow the searcher to see related news, photos, podcasts, and books.
All three are useful in their own way. Try them out to see which works when for you.
