Customers in Person and on Your Blog

View Comments

Businesses that have customers in their neighborhood enjoy a chance to communicate both in person and through a blog. Small businesses such as restaurants, hair styling studios, real estate brokers, health clubs, dry cleaners, and pharmacies are doing just that. If these businesses choose to blog, they have a real advantage over their competitors who do not.

Today’s static website functions as a telephone book, only getting traffic when a phone number or address is needed. But a blog invites a customer to find out more about a business and the folks who run it. They can check in to see what might be special this week, if new events are occurring, how the holidays might affect business hours, even whether fashions are changing or special guests are coming.

By featuring a blog on a computer in the shop itself, customers can get to know the blog and feel at home in the establishment. Real conversations start about the blog that lead to real relationships. After all, if you saw a computer with your doctor’s office on it, while you were in her waiting room, wouldn’t that start a conversation about the blog?

It’s one quick step from there to asking customers to link back with their own blogs. Next thing you know a community has started.

    Hey Liz,

This article would work in helping me convince K to start her own blog for her beauty shop.

I can’t fingure out how to email it to her, do you have a way? Other than a hyperlink.
