Online Marketing 1: The Lonely Child Analogy

View Comments

The Internet has so much to offer and so much going on. I can’t image why any enterprise would stand back and allow a simple website to sit alone and be their only presence. When I think of that response, an image of a lonely child on a crowded playground comes to mind. I want to put my arm around that website and help it learn how to interact with what’s happening around it.

A Friend

Just as any lonely child’s self-esteem is exponentially affected by the introduction of a single friend, a single online static website can be re-energized and invigorated by the introduction to a blog. It’s easy to add a blog onto a website and can cost less than an enterprise spends for coffee in a month.

The blog can give the website flexibility and a voice, and show the website how the Internet works in what they’re calling Web 2.0. The blog can give new customers a reason to come visit the website and old customers a reason to return. The blog can put a human face on with the website so that customers know that the company isn’t only looking for their money.

Attracting new customers and re-engaging past customers are one key to successful marketing. The other two are a great offering delivered with fabulous service. However, you need the first for the second two to matter.

The blog can make a website new again at far less investment than a website renovation and with far more lasting impact. A blog can say, “Hey we’re about innovation every day!” because of its dynamic nature. A blog can be the breathing translator, the bridge that communicates relationships and values to the customer.

HOW? We’ll talk about how tomorrow.
