Blogging in Action

Liz Strauss | Business Blogging, Uniquely Liz | Friday, June 16th, 2006

Darren Rowse, THE PROBLOGGER led the best example of blogging in action yesterday, when he posted Business Blogging 101. The post began with an email from a reader asking his advice on how to develop a business blog. In the most authentic and transparent voice, Darren took on the challenge of offering his personal expertise while at the same time asking his readers with more direct experience of business blogging to help out by filling in areas where Darren might not have experience.

Darren said easily and quite frankly.

Disclaimer - I’ve never written a ‘business blog’ and am not really sure I’m the person to be asking these questions as any expertise I might have is more in the type of blogging that earns income from ad or affiliate programs. As a result I’m looking forward to the opinions of readers who have more direct experience with business blogging - please feel free to share what you know in comments.

And as a result two things occurred.

    1. The advice he gave had context, clarity, and credibility.

    2. The comments from readers were rich with more insights about business blogging and more resources a new business blogger might mine.

It was an entirely interactive conversation a reader asked a question and through one blogger’s understanding of his own expertise and his respect for his readers, a whole community responded with a wealth of information and hardwon insights.

Blogging in action at its best is teaching and learning as a community in conversation.
