Seven Simple Keyword Rules
Posted by Liz Strauss · 5 Comments
When writing for the Internet, there are seven simple keyword rules. What are those rules?
1. Always write for people first.
2. Position keywords after the post is written.
3. Keep the number of individual keywords limited.
4. Avoid using a given keyword too often in a document. The Internet is not a first-grade practice reader.
5. Position keywords in titles, headers, early in text, and on new pages.
6. Position keywords in graphic descriptions as appropriate to explain them. Remember some programs use those descriptions to interpret images for readers who can’t see the graphics.
7. Go back to read the document again–read it as your human readers would. Take out the keywords that are redundant. Search engine spiders and people agree on that.
Write first for people who want quality content. Then think about search engine spiders. Search engines like people. People pay the ad revenues that support them.
It’s as simple as those seven rules.

Hi Liz,
Excellent tips! BTW, I never knew of this site till now
Hi John,
Great to see you here! Thank you for taking the time to leave a word that you stopped.
This is my “brainy” site. It’s where I get to let my head have its way and think as much as it likes. I’m spending time right now mixing business, education, and strategy to see what new and original thoughts I might have.

Today is my first month blogger’s anniversary day and what a wonderful day it is too. I visited again this really terrific site which is filled with excellent information, the kind of information I need to make my own and use automatically and effortlessly to become a better blogger.
I also found your less brainy and closer to the heart site and was both challenged and uplifted by what I read there.
What a skilled communicator you are. What a tuned in person you are.
YES! I’ve found a role model in the blogosphere and that’s a perfect annivesary gift.:D
The lead sentence says “six simple keyword rules”
They look like good rules. I will use them.
Hi Adrian,
Thanks for letting me know that. Originally there were only six rules. Then as I was writing I made them into seven. As they say, no writer can edit her own stuff. I’m the perfect example of that . . . I need a day on my blog.
